The heat index is on the rise, but we've got plenty of ways to keep you cool at the CFM this Saturday. Thankfully, our location couldn’t be more pleasant with its grassy expanse in the middle surrounded by a canopy of trees for shade. Right out of the gate, or into the gate, as it were...you can find not one but two refreshing beverages at the market entrance: The Dough Nation Pizza truck is pouring frothy Kombucha on tap and The Taiguey Company serves up delicious herbal iced teas like hibiscus, passion fruit and Southern sweet peach.
Sip, stroll, and savor the sweetness of summer in a cup. Dough Nation also dishes out Jane’s Organic Ice Cream in a cup with your choice of market toppings. What is more refreshing than that on a summer day?
Obercreek Farm is bringing zucchini so why not buy a bunch to make this crowd-pleasing Grilled Zucchini with ricotta. Super simple and packed with flavor, especially if you opt for smoked ricotta from Maplebrook Farm instead of plain.
You’ll have some ricotta left over so why not smother it on some of Norwegian Baked’s crispbread and top with sliced radishes or sprouts or smoked trout? They are here for their once-a-month visit so stock up! Why not get all of their cracker flavors and decide as a family which is your favorite for next time?
This is the time of year when our orchards, Caradonna and Mead Orchards, start to really strut their stuff. Both will have cherries this week and Mead already has sweetly-tart blush apricots, too. Why not try your hand at Melissa Clark’s Twice-Baked Sour Cherry Pie? It is just the thing to bring to a summer BBQ or picnic. Or simply to make at home for your family to usher in summer. Cherries are terrific in savory preparations too, as in this fabulous recipe for Charred Bread with Ricotta and Cherry Salsa from Samin Nosrat. Get your baguette from Wave Hill Breads for this one. You can also use the salsa to gussy up some grilled pork chops or sea bass from our new fish vendor Catch of the Hamptons.
Channery Hill Farm is all about “gussying up.” They make ‘things to put on top of things’ like garlic scape relish or pumpkin tomato ketchup–and everything they make is sourced locally from their farm. If you missed them the last time they were here, make a beeline this time around.
Have you tried La Trafila’s cacio e pepe stuffed mezzaluna? These filled pastas sell out quickly, so make sure to get yours early. Perfect for a quick dinner that’s sure to impress. Serve with basil-infused olive oil from Arlotta Food Studio or one of La Trafila’s own suggested sauces.
SMOK’D and Goode and Local are both in the house this week so you know that good smells will abound. For those looking to grill at home, R&M Farms has top-quality strip steaks, and Letterbox Farm offers plump spatchcock chicken to splay on the grill.
Springbrook Hollow Distillery is now located next to Fairy Juice Bar—by request—as both vendors believe their products make beautiful music (er, cocktails) together.
Our favorite house band, Milton is back so you can kick back and enjoy your market pie or Wild Radish grain salad whlie you take in their musical talent.
See you at the market!
